John Glover reached acclaim long before he made his first appearance on Smallville. A Tony Award-winning actor for such performances as Love! Valour! Compassion!, Mr. Glover’s long list of past credits include Annie Hall, Brimstone, An Early Frost, Scrooged, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Batman & Robin, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and multiple episodes of Murder, She Wrote. Glover’s performance as a guest star in Season 1 encouraged the show’s producers to make him a series regular, where he stayed until Season 7. He also returned for a handful of Season 10 episodes, including the series finale. In recent years, he has appeared on Fear the Walking Dead, Evil, and other projects; he could also be seen as the disapproving father of another bald villain in DC’s Shazam! film, echoing the relationship between Lionel Luthor and his son Lex which was always a high point on Smallville.
