REMINDER: Most guest will sign almost any item you bring from home or you can buy an item at the convention, but you need to have an item for the guest to sign. One ticket equals one autograph.

REMINDER: Your ONE photo op ticket includes an 8x10 glossy full color photo of yourself with the guest and can include up to TWO fans (1 photo op tix = 2 fans in one photo). TWO photo op tickets can include up to FOUR fans in a photo (2 photo op tix = 4 fans in one photo). We cannot, however, accommodate over FOUR fans in any one photo op.

PHILOSOPHICAL THEMES in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Join Jason Eberl, Professor of Health Care Ethics and Philosophy at Saint Louis University, for a discussion about the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series and its prequel series Caprica and how it provokes viewers to consider philosophical questions regarding, among topics, the nature of personhood and the role of religion in culture and politics. While no single philosophical viewpoint encapsulates the series’ vision as a whole, the theory of biopolitics offers a fruitful lens through which various points of story and character development may be understood: from the Cylons’ desire to biologically procreate, going so far as to create “farms” of human women, to the police-state of New Caprica and the surviving Colonials own struggles to maintain a just society. Two specific questions addressed in this presentation are whether a race of intelligent, self-aware beings, despite having been artificially created, should be considered “persons” with moral and legal status — questioned, for instance, when the Colonials consider unleashing a genocidal virus with only Helo standing in their way — and second, whether the supposed divide between the “biological” and the “artificial” morally justifies one class of beings exercising control over another, as seen in the perpetual cycle that plays out on Kobol, (the first) Earth, Caprica, and now on our own Earth.
